From 6 April 2026, sole traders and landlords with total annual income from self-employment and property over £50,000 must use Making Tax Digital for Income Tax. The threshold reduces to £30,000 from April 2027 and £20,000 from April 2028.

Limited companies generally need to keep accounting records for 6 years from the end of the financial year they relate to. PAYE records generally need to be kept for 3 years from the end of the relevant tax year. Self Assessment record-keeping rules vary depending on whether the person is self-employed and when the return was filed, so we can confirm the correct retention period for your circumstances.

Good tax planning means making proper use of allowable expenses, reliefs, allowances and planning opportunities available to you. Depending on your circumstances, this can include business expenditure, capital allowances, pension contributions and how income is extracted from a company. The right approach depends on the individual or business, so planning should happen before decisions are made rather than only when the return is due.

VAT registration is generally compulsory when taxable turnover exceeds £90,000 over a rolling 12-month period, or when you expect taxable turnover to exceed £90,000 in the next 30 days. Businesses below the threshold can also register voluntarily, which can be useful to recover VAT expenses

There is no single percentage that works for everyone. The amount depends on profit, other income, business structure, allowances and whether payments on account apply. Rather than relying on a flat percentage of revenue, we can estimate your expected tax liability so you can plan your cash flow more accurately.
Let’s make accounting easier.
